Today many theories and statements are existed about the causes of Crohns disease. Some individuals believe that Crohns disease could also be developed because of having antibiotics for longer periods. Having a food after having antibiotics will have a bad effect on our digestive system. Any diet that uses yeast in its fabrication could cause instability. What is Crohns Disease

Crohn’s disease is a chronic ongoing disorder which causes inflammation to the intestines of the digestive system. The digestive tract or intestinal tract can also be said as gastro intestinal tract. Crohns disease could affect any part of the digestive tract which could be from mouth to anus.

It primarily causes ulcerations (breaks in the lining) of the small and large intestines, but it most commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine, called as ileum. The swelling extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The swelling can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting into diarrhea.

It is named after the physician who described the disease in 1932. It also is called granulomatous enteritis or colitis, regional enteritis, ileitis, or terminal ileitis.

Crohn’s disease is closely related to another chronic inflammatory disease that involves only the large intestine called as ulcerative colitis. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are frequently together referred to as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). And unfortunately both ulcerative colitis and crohn’s disease have no medical treatments. Once the disease begins, they tend to fluctuate between periods of inactivity (remission) and activity (relapse). They affect approximately half million to two million people in the US itself. Both men and women are equally affected. Inflammatory bowel disease can began during childhood but most commonly begins during adolescence and early adulthood.

As we said earlier that crohn’s disease affects both men and women equally and also seems to run in some families. About twenty percent of people with CD have symptoms relating to with some form of IBD, most commonly a brother or sister and even sometimes a parent or child. Crohn’s disease will occur in all age groups of people, but it is more often diagnosed in people between the ages of twenty and thirty. Specially if we speak in the context of heredity Jewish people have an increased risk of developing Crohn’s disease and it is proven in many situations, but African Americans are at decreased risk for developing Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease is also called as enteritis or ileitis.

Causes of Crohn’s disease?

Several principles exist about what causes Crohn’s disease, but nothing has been proven. The human immune system is made from cells and different proteins that protect people from infection. The most popular theory is that the body’s immune system reacts abnormally in people with Crohn’s disease, mistaking bacteria, foods, and other substances for being foreign. The immune system’s response is to attack these “invaders.” During this process, white blood cells accumulate in the lining of the intestines, producing chronic inflammation, which leads to ulcerations and bowel injury.

Activation of the immune system in the intestines appears to be important in IBD. The immune system is composed of immune cells and the proteins that these immune cells produce. Normally, these cells and proteins defend the body against harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other foreign invaders. Activation of the immune system causes inflammation within the tissues where the activation occurs. (Inflammation is an important mechanism of defense used by the immune system.)

Scientists do not know if the abnormality in the functioning of the immune system in people with Crohn’s disease is a cause, or a result, of the disease. Research shows that the inflammation seen in the GI tract of people with Crohn’s disease involves several factors: the genes the patient has inherited, the immune system itself, and the environment. Foreign substances, also referred to as antigens, are found in the environment. One possible cause for inflammation may be the body’s reaction to these antigens, or that the antigens themselves are the cause for the inflammation. Scientists have found that high levels of a protein produced by the immune system, called tumor necrosis factor (TNF), are present in people with Crohn’s disease.
